Census figures are seasonally adjusted annual rates, which describe the pace of spending at that point in time rather than the amount spent in one month. Employment figures come from the Bureau of Labor Statistics payroll survey. The hiring statistic reflects responses from construction firms in the AGC/NCCER workforce survey and should be read as a survey result, not a count of every contractor.
